Auto Star Tracking & Stacking for Astrophotography

The DWARF II mount overcomes two problems every astrophotographer faces when trying to take long exposure images of the night sky.

First of all, the telescope mount must know where it’s located and where it’s pointed. Once it knows where this, a telescope can then move to astro objects to photography them. The DWARF II works out where it is pointed by a process called “Plate Solving”. The telescope takes some images and looks for the patterns of the stars it’s seeing. Every part of the sky has a different arrangement of stars, like an astro fingerprint. This happens in the background and the user will be unaware it’s even going on.

The second issue is that due to Earth’s rotation, stars and other astro objects move slowly in the sky. (In fact they rotate around a point in the sky called the South Celestial Pole.) If you point a normal camera at stars and try and take a long exposure of even 30 seconds you’ll notice they simply leave a smear as they move.  The DWARF II can automatically track astro objects as they move across the night sky to allow low exposures to capture faint objects.

Astrophotography also normally requires an equatorial or EQ mount. DWARF II sits an Alt-Az or AZ mount and uses a field-rotation-correction algorithm to avoid the field rotation AZ mounts sometime encounter during long exposures. There’s also no need for to worry about polar alignment.

Automatic registration after multiple exposures means the DWARF II stacks the multiple exposures into a bright and clear image.

How does DWARF II take deep space photos?

It consists of the following three steps: Automatic calibration. Dwarf II will automatically shoot 3 images of the sky, and based on these 3 images, the current attitude, tilt, and orientation of the dwarf can be calculated. GOTO. DWARF II integrates the star atlas, confirming the star to be observed, and it can read the coordinates of the star and point it directly. Tracking. The trajectory of each star in the star atlas has been solved in dwarf, allowing the star can be automatically tracked.

What are some examples of the deep-sky objects DWARF II can capture?

Based on the parameters of the camera, DWARF II is suitable for the DSOs whose angular size is above 15 arc minutes and the apparent magnitude is below 9, such as Omega Centuri, NGC2264, NGC5128, NGC6960, NGC1499, M6, M7, M8, M16, M17, M20, M41, M42, M44, M45, M81, M101, IC4604. As long as the cumulative exposure time is long enough and the sky tracking is stable, the weak signals of the nebula can be accumulated, and a variety of nebulae can be photographed.

Can the DWARF II support RAW Format shooting? 

Yes, the DWARF II supports TIFF and RAW format.

How to charge the Dwarf ?

The Dwarf II does not come with any charging cables. However all you require is a USB-C cable to charge.
